A lifeless kick-drum sound can bring down the energy level of your whole track, especially if you work in one of the many uptempo rock, pop or dance styles. Despite the importance of this one sound, however, surprisingly few of the tracks we receive for our Demo Doctor and Business End columns really nail it. Fortunately for Logic users, though, there are a large number of tools available which can help polish (and salvage!) lacklustre kick tracks, whether they’re part of a live kit sound, or a sample running from a MIDI module or virtual instrument.
Jammie Thomas was fined $2 million for downloading 24 songs.
1. Child abduction: the fine is only like $25000.
2. Stealing the actual CD: the fine is $2,500
3. Rob your neighbor: the fine is $375,000
4. Burn a house down: The fine is just over $375,000
5. Stalk someone: The fine is $175,000
6. Start a dogfighting ring: the fine is $50,000
7. Murder someone: The maximum penalty is only $25,000 and 15 years in jail, and depending on your yearly salary, would probably be far slighter a penalty that $2 million.
This shows how backwards our society can be. It’s a good thing the labels won’t be around for much longer, and a good thing that illegal downloading will become irrelevant. If you didn’t already know, we(Beat-Play) have theoretically solved these problems. Now we’re working on the web software prototype that will finally make all of this mean completely nothing to independent or signed artists. If you want to know how it works, go here.
This shit was epic. A Tribe Called Quest is the most powerful group in Hip Hop, and the energy they left in this place was electrifying. I’ve been a fan for something like 10 years, but never seen them live until now. This moment was historic, and nobody there will ever forget it! A Tribe Called Quest – Represent – Represent!!
Lauryn Hill was amazing, even though the sound guys couldn’t get their shit together with her mic or the guitar. She had a full band complete with lead guitar, rhythm guitar, bass/synth, keyboardist/dj, 2 full set drummers and 3 back up singers. She was incredible!! I was really diggin the new style. She was like a conductor up there performing the new versions of her old classics. This moment in hip hop history will never be forgotten!
Also seen in this vid is Mary J. Blige, Beyonce, Jay-z, Alicia Keys, Swizz Beatz, Chris Rock, and others. Make sure you check out Chris’s facial expressions..they’re classic too. The crazy part is that pretty much everybody looked like that. We love you Lauryn!
