It’s time to cross the pond in this post. Most of the time I try to keep it local talking about bands in the local LA music scene or even just in the US, but every now and again I hear a band that I MUST write about no matter where they come from. This band is called the Vaccines. They write cool songs, they are British which makes them cooler and they have a new record out called “What Did You Expect From The Vaccines.” I expected complete bullshit and I got complete awesomeness. (I didn’t actually expect complete bullshit.)
Lithal Li embodies the spirit of empowered Cape Town hip-hop. she finds a balance between the deep-down swagger of backpack rap and the beautiful sonics of soul. Having been an active emcee for some time now, she had some time last year to work at the Red Bull Studio on a solo EP. Take a listen to the full EP, “Eye Con”, on soundcloud, which harks back to the classic sounds of 90’s underground hip-hop.

This dope Pennsylvania native trip-hop producer, Royale Blue teams up with ill lyricist WOLM in this incredible arrangement of “Da Super” which contains a beat like no other. These two are surely on to something here, taking the game to a new height with this track, while bringing back that old school feeling we’ve all known and loved. Being one of Royale Blue’s newer tracks, released 5 days ago, it is quickly gaining exposure and interest of the interwebs. Here is a project that we should all put our support towards, because I wanna hear more! Please enjoy “Da Super” and show some love by visiting Royale Blue and WOLM.
Most of you are probably already aware of the gangster ass Odd Future crew of Los Angeles, California but I’m sure you weren’t expecting them to have one of this years smoothest R&B artists of the year. I have to admit that it wasn’t until after being heckled over a couple weeks that I actually sat down and listened to the cat. Well my apologies guys, you win. What a great style, and an amazing addition to this years other rising R&B artist, The Weeknd. The future is looking pretty promising for this genre, and we can all hope for some more bangin’ tracks to fulfill that wish. Here is one of his fan favorites remixing a famous MGMT track with his own ‘Nature Feels’.
This is a very big year for the Odd Future crew producing many big names just this year. It’s amazing how quickly they blew up especially after the infamous ‘Yonkers’ video by crew leader Tyler The Creator. Be sure to visit Frank Ocean and grab his latest tracks! This is one of his latest tracks, ‘Swim Good’ off his new album “nastalgia,ULTRA”.
