Bateleur – “Thanks, India” [VIDEO] [FREE DOWNLOAD]

Bateleur

Bateleur are a 6-piece instrumental band from Cape Town. They’re different than most instrumental bands because they have piano and trumpet, along with the typical guitar, bass, and drums. The best thing about them is their really interesting song composition style, which sets them apart.  From a Mahala review of their live show, “There is something deeply exciting about Bateluer at first, genuine music nerds closing their eyes, feeling the music and punching out solid technically challenging music…”  This gives the listener an idea of the vibe at a performance by by this up and coming South African band.  Download their mountain 3 track for free, and check out the video of their track Thanks, India.

Andy Lund & The Mission Men – Performing TONIGHT at &Union “Fall From Grace” [VIDEO] [EVENT]

The music rolls out like a cinematic soundboard, driven by passion and emotion. Andy Lund describes his music, “as much Bruce Springsteen, Tom Waits and Neil Young as it is Radiohead, Depeche Mode and Jeff Buckley.”   He has been involved in the South African music scene for over 10 years as the lead singer/songwriter of Roswell Kings. Feeling that he was only expressing half of his soul with the Kings, Lund felt that he need to take the collection of acoustic songs that he had written and give them the attention they deserved and so Andy Lund & The Mission Men was born. Lund is backed by The Mission Men – Sean Ou Tim (piano/percussion), and Brydon Bolton (double bass/electric bass).  Andy Lund & The Mission Men’s first full-length album, Soundtrack For A Muted Heart, was released to rave reviews by public and media alike.  Check out the video for “Fall From Grace” and if you’re in Cape Town check them out at &Union tonight!

Double Adapter – “Adapt or Die” [MUSIC NEWS] [DOCUMENTARY]

From their beginnings in 2009, Double-Adapter have been blurring the line between DJs and ‘live acts’ with their high-energy audiovisual performances. Signing with Griet Artists in 2010, they’ve surpassed the confines of the Joburg/Pretoria nexus with regular forays into Cape Town.  On April 14th 2011, they embarked on their first European tour playing in Holland, Austria, The Czech Republic, Italy and Germany, while filming a documentary that follows the chaotic steps of the brothers.  It will show African and world audiences that South African artists are here to stay. The documentary takes the shape of six 1-minute video inserts that sum up the experience of each gig, and two 24 minute specials that together create one 48 minute show. It’s raw but cinematic. It’s rock and roll.  Double-Adapter will be launching the first episode of the documentary at the Assembly tonight.   Adapt Or Die episode one premieres tonight at 21h00 and episode two on June 3rd 21h00 – only on MK. You can also watch the performance inserts on YouTube. See you tonight!
