Digital Native Tongues

For whatever reason, I equate a lot of my experiences as a Beat-Play company member to several verses and hooks in my favorite songs.  I was born in ’77.  So, that sweet spot has EVERYTHING to do with A Tribe Called Quest, Wu-Tang Clan, The Jungle Brothers, Freestyle music, Gang Starr, Rakim, Big Pun, Biggie, and all of the other greats.  If you’re feeling me on this already, then read on.  If you’re a bit hesitant, then I invite you to step in; and understand why these pioneers have laid the foundation for elevated thinking and prosperous language skills.

And it goes a little something like this….

Lyrics from A Tribe Called Quest’s “Steve Biko”

Q-Tip simply rips it with:

Okay
I am recognizing that the voice inside my head
Is urging me to be myself but never follow someone else
Because opinions are like voices
We all have a different kind
So just clean out all of your ears
These are my views and you will find that
We revolutionize over the kick and the snare
The ghetto vocalist is on a state-wide tear
Soon to be the continent and then the freakin globe
Theres room for it all as we mingle at the ball
We welcome competion cuz it doesnt make one lazy or worn
We gotta work hard, you know the damn card
Try to be the fattest is the level that we strive
Try to be the fattest also to stay alive

This is the feeling and the passion that is communicated in every single one of our meetings.  Whether we’re tawkin’ about our Creative Designs, our Integrated Marketing plans, our Social Media tactics, our Web Development, or whatever.  We’re very fortunate to have a really strong support network.  This is a team of entrepreneurs and innovators.  There’s a magical chemistry that we’re brewing.

I remember when I first heard Tip spit this verse, I always knew that he would forever be a voice that leads a generation.  This verse kills in more ways than one.  4 highly essential things happen in one key exchange.  First, Phife’s dish to Q-Tip is classic:

Tip educate ‘em, my rhymes are strictly taboo

Fill ‘em with some fantasies and I’ll look out like Tattoo

Then DJ Ali Shaheed Muhammad just completely destroys it with the phattest jabs; he stabbed that record.    Then, Tip’s lyrics ignite the beast in just about anyone that takes their shit serious.  Peep the talented tempo and the BPM’s.  Fuckin’ Genius!  Finally, the Delivery is just pure HIP HOP.  That’s what’s up, and that’s what we’re all about.

A Tribe Called Quest Live – Rock the Bells 2010 New York – 3rd row!

This shit was epic. A Tribe Called Quest is the most powerful group in Hip Hop, and the energy they left in this place was electrifying. I’ve been a fan for something like 10 years, but never seen them live until now. This moment was historic, and nobody there will ever forget it! A Tribe Called Quest – Represent – Represent!!

The Beat-Play Experiment Entry #9 – Updates!

Hello again! This is Dante Cullari, Beat-Play’s founder and president, and I just wanted to give everyone another update on where we are with Beat-Play and what’s going on behind the scenes.

First off, we are officially in invitation beta, and have been for about a week now. Right now our beta consists only of the social network capabilities and minor player and music discovery features. Our plan now is to continue to develop the player’s capabilities and to add to the ways in which fans can discover new music, using our automated word of mouth system (more info here). These features will be available hopefully by the end of this year in their full glory. Other things we’re working on are fixing a bunch of aesthetic stuff and also making the profiles more customizable for the users.

Once these fixes are done, hopefully before December 31st, we will release Beat-Play to the public for the first time. However, if you are an artist and would like to join us in early beta testing, please contact us at beta@musicwithoutlabels.com, and we will get you a pass code.

We are getting extremely close, and extremely excited to be able to make these revolutionary new tools available to people for the first time in history! With the completion of these tools, a great many new opportunities for fans and artists will be made available. It is our goal and dream to help artists and fans realize that these opportunities are then there, and to watch them take advantage of them – being more accurate, more personally customized music discovery for fans than ever possible before, and more efficient, effective, and FREE promotion and distribution for indie artists, with the added opportunity to make the fans happy by giving the music away for free, while still earning a living off of ad revenue, in addition to an almost unlimited amount of other revenue streams, such as merch sales, live streaming concerts, music licensing, 3D virtual artist meet n greets, and any other kind of content that would draw fans to an artists page where we can place unobtrusive and relevant ads. Not to mention artists being in full control over the price of ad space, and of course, full creative control over their music.

These are some really incredible gifts that this technology will make possible for the first time in history. This automatic word of mouth could even have a huge effect on marketing as we know it. The only catch is that it literally will not work without people to populate it. These effects will only be fueled by a massive social network. It’s up to the artists and fans to back this community if they want to see their careers and music discovery reach it’s full potential. Pass it on!!

Anyway, for now we’re truckin along pretty well. We also have a lot of awesome content coming your way. This week we may be a little bit less present on the blog than in the last weeks. This is because we’ll be traveling to several events around the country.

One this last weekend was the Mile High Music Festival in Denver. You can look forward to an interview with indie band Slightly Stoopid and a lot of amazing photography from that event. Also this week we’ll be traveling to the THC Music Festival in Alma, Colorado. This was the South Park Music Tour last year. There are going to be a BUNCH of amazing indie bands out there. Last year we were blown away. You can expect a lot of great HD live performance footage from there, and probably some interviews as well. I hear Nappy Roots is going to show up too! Should be a great time.

Then as soon as we get back it will time for the Rock the Bells concert in NY!! featuring A Tribe Called Quest, the whole Wu-Tang Clan, Snoop Dogg, Slick Rick, Lauren Hill, and a lot more! We’ll be there soaking it in, giving you all the details, taking pictures and hopefully getting some meet and greets in there too – come on Tip!

So there’s your Beat-Play update. We’re steadily grinding away everyday to get these roll changing tools into your hands as soon as possible, because God knows we could use them, and we’re also attending some really amazing events that you won’t want to miss out on, and thanks to us, you won’t have to. Stay tuned for more updates. Sorry again for the slow blogging this week, but I assure you there’s a lot more original content coming from Beat-Play in the coming weeks. Thanks a lot to all of our artists, and everyone who has shown support!! We need you more than ever now. Hit us up to beta test too! We need more artists and music on there! Take care. Peace out!

A Tribe Called Quest held down by the Fabels

I can’t tell you how much I love them. I finally get to see them live at Rock the Bells this year – it’s going to be epic. But this is some seriously messed up bullsh*t..they need to make another album but I don’t blame them for not wanting the labels to be a part of it. There’s gotta be a way out..
