Richard the Third

Being a central agent in South Africa’s electronic music scene, Richard the Third is a regular DJ at the country’s biggest music clubs such as The Assembly, Fiction, The Woods and Alexander Theatre.  As one half of local dubstep warriors Biscope,, producer and performer for Spoek Mathamobo & Mshini Wam, Richard the Third’s sets are a roller-coaster ride of the best modern bass music: grinding electro, rising dubstep and everything in between.  He has put his own music out on local labels such as African Dope and On A Break Records as well as producing  and remixing with numerous other South African artists, including 340ml and Sibot.  He describes his music as, “Somewhere between the warm waters of dub and downbeat and the rocky mountains of banging dancefloor electronica” Check out his track Boss, featuring Ribone.

Double Adapter – “Adapt or Die” [MUSIC NEWS] [DOCUMENTARY]

From their beginnings in 2009, Double-Adapter have been blurring the line between DJs and ‘live acts’ with their high-energy audiovisual performances. Signing with Griet Artists in 2010, they’ve surpassed the confines of the Joburg/Pretoria nexus with regular forays into Cape Town.  On April 14th 2011, they embarked on their first European tour playing in Holland, Austria, The Czech Republic, Italy and Germany, while filming a documentary that follows the chaotic steps of the brothers.  It will show African and world audiences that South African artists are here to stay. The documentary takes the shape of six 1-minute video inserts that sum up the experience of each gig, and two 24 minute specials that together create one 48 minute show. It’s raw but cinematic. It’s rock and roll.  Double-Adapter will be launching the first episode of the documentary at the Assembly tonight.   Adapt Or Die episode one premieres tonight at 21h00 and episode two on June 3rd 21h00 – only on MK. You can also watch the performance inserts on YouTube. See you tonight!

P.H. Fat – “Dinosaur Blood” [MUSIC]

The three-man Cape Town band released their first album “Dinosaur Blood” last week at Assembly’s album launch party Saturday night.  This electronic bass –rap style is hypnotic and the lyrics may cause you to think they watched too much Discovery channel.  Regardless of their influences, they have a unique sound and are worth checking out.  Mike, Narch and Disco first started performing in the Mother City at the end of 2008 and have played at several South African festivals.  Give their title track a listen…
