Reggae/Roots/Dub band Fortunate Youth out of southern California spits out some crazy sweet dub grooves. Sporting 7 members, these guys jam the fck out! ..and they all flow together really well:
Providing a new style of Roots music – combining multiple harmonies and boisterous solos, separates Fortunate Youth from other reggae bands. Positive stage presence and their high-energy approach ensures an unforgettable experience.
Fortunate Youth is a collaboration of South Bay reggae stand-outs. Coming from various bands, they’ve created a phenomenal 7 piece bringing fire to the stage. Combining rootsy vibes and heavy bass lines united with multiple harmonies and boisterous solos distinguishes Fortunate Youth from every other mainstream reggae band. With their high energy approach and positive stage presence they provide an unforgettable show to every music fan.
I also highly recommend checking out some of their live acoustic vids from MoBoogie.
Vinny Vegas is an amazing rock band out of Baltimore, MD.
The band consists of:
Justin Fogelman – Guitar and Vocals
Scott Siskind – Guitar and Vocals
Emmanuel Lee – Keys
Ian McDonald – Bass
Jason Cohen – Drums
Vinny Vegas has been around since about 2004. Their last EP Land of Giants had some of my favorite tracks from 2009 on it like Watch out for Mastodons and Four Rabbits (Listen Here). Now they’ve just released a 7” Vinyl recording with 2 brand new tracks. Here’s a sneak peak of one of them:
Vinny Vegas – “Ogre Hands”
Vinny Vegas fcking DESTROYS it! These guys should really be famous right now. If you like indie rock, you’re going to fall in love with this band. There’s not much else I can say about them, other than buy their new vinyl!
Lust Murder bOX is a Goth/Electronica/Industrial band out of Austin, TX made up of Erik, Nox, Travis and Vaughn.
Lust Murder bOX – “Genesis”
I’ve got to say, I’m not a Goth Music enthusiast. I do love good music however, and these guys have it. You really get the sense that their music represents something more than just something to listen to. Their lyrical content is opinionated a raw. They’re not afraid to tell the truth.
I really like how they switch between male and female vocals throughout their music too. In terms of musical arrangement, these guys seem to have their sound down perfectly, and the experimentation in their music is refreshing. All in all, especially if you’re a fan of darker rock music, Lust Murder bOX’s new album The New Divine is a great pick up.
The Further Room is an amazing Alternative/Fusion/Pop band out of Columbia, South Carolina. The band consists of:
Adam Palmer – Vocals, guitar
Barrett Self – Vocals, guitar, piano
Matt Lewis – Drums
Lizbet Kloot – Violin
Mike Shirk – Bass
Their sound is an awesome amalgamation of different styles that pulls you right in. With meaningful lyrics and amazing voices, Adam Palmer and Barrett Self will make you a fan for a long time to come.
As described on their Myspace: If One Republic and Snow Patrol had a 9 pound, 5 ounce autistic… I’m sorry…. aRtistic baby, we’re what would be delivered.
They kind of remind me of one of my favorite bands, Temple Scene, without as much of the electronic stuff. I really love how they bring the violin in there and the acoustic stuff is awesome! All in all these guys are dirty, and I highly recommend giving them a listen.
Strive Roots – Hip Funk n Roots – Bioresonance Therapy
Eli Lieberman, currently out of Bend, Oregon is the mastermind behind what is Strive Roots. Strive Roots is not something that can be easily defined or confined.
In terms of the music, it’s a kind of beautiful reggae / metal / drum n bass / other infusion with an awesome vibe. Strive Roots is usually a trio consisting of lead guitar(Eli), bass guitar and drums. Eli’s talent on guitar takes center stage, but he also works with some very talented band members, who vary depending on where he is.
I can’t wait to release the film we got of Eli at the THC Music Fest. Eli shreds! He does something with his guitar that I’ve never seen any other human being do ever, and I have no idea how the f**k he does it either(supposedly no one does). I won’t tell you what it is, just look forward to that video hopefully in the next couple weeks.
In terms of the lyrics, the tone and the voice of the music, Strive Roots is more like the reflection of a collection of truths floating out in space somewhere, often not found. Continue reading →
Their sound is ridiculously funky, soulful and a pleasure to listen to, especially live! Their Myspace describes them as Funk, Blues and Jazz. I’d say that’s pretty accurate, but you’ve really got to see for yourself.
As far as Jam bands go, these guys stick out. They have a great feel, and if you listen closely you can catch these crazy time signature changes that they seem to love playing around with, especially on their current eight-track, self titled, mostly live recorded album…it’s awesome.
All of the members are extremely talented musicians and their attention to detail is literally felt in their music. Like they say, if you don’t know what to call it, it’s Jazz, and these guys would definitely fit into that category..then throw in an incredibly soulful blues lick.. These guys are like a lovely kick to the face that’ll make you ask for more. All in all a great grab for anybody looking for something new and something funky.
