Charles Bradley – “The World (Is Going Up In Flames” feat. The Menahan Street Band [MUSIC]

Hats off to Brooklyn’s recent finest, 62 year old Charles Bradley, who teams up with fellow motown vibin’ soul group The Menahan Street Band in this instant classic. The man has an unbelievable voice that stands out like the late James Brown, which you notice a whole lot more on his more recent release, “How Long”. This one here is all about the soul tones delivered in those sensational bass lines and bangin’ dub horns. Here is a track along side a growing list of classic 60s & 70s soul R&B sound like the more recent Mayer Hawthorne. Catch this hit along with the rest of Charles’ newest full length album, ‘No Time For Dreaming” at his website.

Von Thord – “Wedding Night” [MUSIC]

Von Thord

These guys are kickin’ it dood. But seriously they really lay down some sick riffs on the cello and bass. It’s really starting to become apparent now that Sweden has some of the most creative music and starting to take over the independent scene in the west as well. The other music is really good but it’s best to show you this track so you can visually appreciate their extraordinary talent. Catch more of there songs here.

EJ Von Lyrik is from Mitchell Plains, a township on the Cape Flats of Cape Town and has been producing her own instrumentals since 2001.  She is a strong proponent of the power of music for inspiration, thus her lyrics are filled with positive messages.  By her eclectic mix of funk, hip hop and reggae she believes her music reaches a more diverse audience.  Check out this video to see a more detailed background of this artist in her own words.  You can also stream her music here.
