Gazelle – “Chic Afrique” [MUSIC]

Gazelle turns traditional African music on its head, by mixing it with a fusion of funk, disco and electro their product is a mix of synth-pop, natural rhythms, and a wicked baseline. Their modern traditional crossover genre they call LIM POP has left a permanent mark on the African music scene.   Recently Gazelle performed at Cape Town’s International Jazz Festival, and won the Red Bull Soundclash in Durban.  In a recent interview with Mail & Guardian, Nick Matthews (the invisible DJ) explained his music, “We’re taking traditional African instruments and playing styles and mixing it up with something which is from a totally different place. We’re actually playing something that’s not realized yet. We’re trying to create harmony within juxtapositions.”
