Young The Giant hails from Orange County, CA. In the last year I have had the pleasure of seeing them twice. Once at a sold out Roxy on the Sunset Strip in Hollywood, CA and once at a small bar in Boston called Great Scott. The Great Scott show was their first show of their first headlining tour. This band is tight, energetic and fun, simple as that. They usually play this track at the end of their shows but I think this will wet your whistle as we get into their self titled debut record.
My Body – Young The Giant
The soaring vocals of Sameer Gadhia with a band of young, but very diverse musicians create an awesome sound that is danceable, eclectic and loud. The band has been playing together in different outfits since high school and are well seasoned playing live in LA and around Southern California. This new record is solid musically and I their ability to grab attention is easy. “Apartment” is my favorite track on the record.

The band’s members range in age from 21 to 23. Comprised of Gadhia on lead vocals with guitarist Jacob Tilley, Eric Cannata on guitar and backing vocals with Payam Doostzadeh holding it down on bass and drummer/ backing vocalist Francois Comtois they used to be known locally and in some circles nationally as the Jakes, but as the grew into writing music full time Young The Giant wanting to go under a new moniker with a fresh start. One tune they carried over from their “Jakes” days is called “Cough Syrup.”

Having opened for the likes of Kings of Leon and The Whigs, Young the Giant is finishing up an American tour through April and then they head over seas only to come back to play the Sasquatch Festival up in Washington State at the end of May. No other dates are posted on their site yet.
Last year they played open sessions where they performed live in different outdoor settings and a bunch of awesome live videos became the result. One of the best songs to come out of that is called “I Got”.
