iAds by Apple: What’s the Big Difference?!?

So I just read a blog post on HypeBot pertaining to the newest ad model being presented by Apple on the new iPhone OS 4 system. I’m still trying to figure out why every industry today alters one aspect of a certain model and acts as though it is a real change. iAd is the newest ad model by Apple, bringing “integrated advertising to your applications.” Here is a breakdown of the new iAd technology:

It all begins with a “banner” at the bottom of your app. That’s funny; before you even get into what the ad does, you have to bypass the old ugly banner model that has been used in iPhone apps since day one. So where is the difference? Instead of going to your browser when you click the ad, it is actually inside the app which allows for the ad to run more efficiently and send you directly back to your app upon completing the ad experience. Now this is a really cool idea, but back to the main question here. Where is the real difference? How are you sparking anymore interest than before with the same visual ad in the “banner” model? You’re not at all. People aren’t going to click on the iAd just as much as the won’t click on any other eye polluting banner ads. Lets go back to the drawing board Apple.
